AOS & LOS are terms used during the tracking of spacecraft by tracking station personnel to signify the Acquisition Of the Signal from the spacecraft and the Loss Of the Signal from the spacecraft .

The antenna shown in the background here is the forty foot (12 meter) dish at the former Quito, Ecuador NASA Station and is shown at the near zero travel limits position which would be the case in a horizon to horizon track of a spacecraft at LOS and AOS.

The term LOS as it is used at the header of the MEMORY page was at the suggestion of Ken Asbury, a long time BFEC'r, tracker, contractor, sub-contractor and who I know as a fellow Montanan.
