We were paid in script as shown in the scan at the right when I arrived at Bitburg in January 1957 and I don't recall all of the denominations but I think that the lowest was 5 cents and the largest was 5 dollars.
We could of course, convert these to German Marks for use on the local economy and at the time we would usually get about four Marks for one US Dollar. Later we were paid in US Dollars which gave us a whole bunch of new latitude on the European market.
