BITBURG CONTROL TOWER
Bitburg Tower 1959
Air Force aircraft of several nations can be seen here, from left to right, with an F-86 Sabre (nose only visible), Republic Thunderstreak F-84, the F-86D, the Dassault-Breguet Mystere, the Hawker Hunter, the Avro CF-100 "Canuck", a 36TFW / 22nd TFS F-100-C "001" and a C-47 "Gooney Bird" in the background. This was apparently a meeting of the Allies or an Air Show at Bitburg but happened during my tour there.
The 22nd TFS area was located to the left of the control tower about 1/2 mile then veered off to the right about 45 deg and then into the 22nd Squadron area.
The above link to the aerial view ("into the 22nd Squadron area") is from a much later time and the photo is probably from sometime around 2000 so the buildings and general layout might appear different than they did in the late 50's but this was the physical location of the squadron at the time, circa 1957.
